Marina Is Going Solar!
October 2013

Solar PanelsVentana Chapter Conservation Committee member Steve Zmak with his Sungevity solar panels in Marina that have been operating for more than a year.

The Ventana Chapter is assisting Citizens for Sustainable Marina (C4SM) in their campaign to convert as many homes in Marina to solar by August 2014. The Chapter donated $500 to fund printing and distributing flyers and other informational materials to educate residents of Marina on the benefits of rooftop solar power.

Enabled by a close partnership with one of California's leading solar providers, Sungevity, Marina residents who sign up will have access to easy, affordable solar. Sungevity's solar-leasing programs will make it possible for homeowners to put solar on their roofs with no money down, a $750 credit on their lease, and low monthly payments that will significantly reduce their current PG&E bill.

Another benefit is that rooftop solar also helps the economy by providing work for the people who design and install the systems. A stronger economy based on good green jobs helps us all.

Marina homeowners need only go to C4SM's page on the Sungevity website (www.sungevity.org/sustainable-marina) to get a free quote and discover how much they can save each month, and their impact on reducing the effects of global warming and climate change. And if they sign their lease in October, those $750 numbers get bumped to $1,000!

C4SM is a local action group of the larger Communities for Sustainable Monterey County organization, and Marina's campaign will be used as a model for other cities in our community to follow with Seaside and Big Sur already in their initial planning stages.
