Outings program recruits new leaders

On Saturday, March 15, Monterey Outings Chair Anneliese Suter and Joyce Stevens held a planning meeting to recruit new and returning hike leaders to lead outings in Monterey County. In the past few years, we have lost some of our most dedicated and beloved hike leaders, and there was strong support by the Chapter Executive Committee to revitalize the outings program.

About 25 volunteers attended the meeting at the Cooper Museum in Garland Park and suggested ways the outings program could be improved. After a spirited discussion which included a lot of reminiscences of past outings and legendary hike leaders, the group formulated plans to add kayaking, revive the senior saunters in Monterey and expand the number of wilderness hikes. The hike leaders will now meet every two months. Please call Anneliese Suter to be part of this effort, 624-1467.
